Book Reflection: Abide Ch. 7

“Speaking the truth into the lies is speaking God’s very presence into them, for He alone is the truth.”

Heather Khym

Chapter 7: Jesus the Truth

When life seems at its worst and we are crying out to God, it can feel like He has abandoned and forsaken us. We may begin to believe the lie that God will not help us, but the truth is that He is closest to us in times of need.

Heather reminds us that “healing is about intimacy—not just the removal of pain.” It is not about getting everything we ask for but about living a life of deep, abiding relationship with God.

Greater healing happens in discovering and believing God’s truth. Since our body and spirit are one, what we experience in spirit will manifest in our body. Conversely, if we declare truth with our body and our lips, it will move into our heart. Words have power, and God's Word holds the ultimate power. As Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

In our struggles, we need to find scripture that speaks to our specific situations and circumstances. By doing so, we can declare God's truth over our lives, finding solace and strength in His promises.

Declaring truth through scripture is powerful in defending ourselves against the lies of the enemy.

What theme do you need to memorize scripture about? What area of our life do we need the Truth to be spoken?
